Andrew Orriss

Andrew is Chief Operating Officer at the Structural Timber Association, responsible for managing key projects including the STA Assure quality standards programme, which drives up quality and consistency across the structural timber industry.

Before joining the STA, Andrew spent several years with SIG Plc, where in 2012 he established the SIG360 Technical Centre to reduce cost and complexity in construction. Earlier in his career, as Managing Director of Innovare Systems, a leading Structural Insulated Panel (SIPs) manufacturer and installer, he helped found the UK’s first SIPs Trade Association, which later became part of the Structural Timber Association.

Anne Daw

After completing her Master of Architecture degree at MIT, Anne worked with architectural practices in Boston and San Francisco before moving to the UK and joining HLM Architects in 2009. Her work at HLM has focused primarily on the education sector, with additional experience across residential, defence, healthcare, and master planning projects.

With her technical background and award-winning design skills, Anne helped lead HLM to embrace modern methods of construction (MMC) and was appointed Head of MMC Delivery in 2022. She now leads business strategy to advance offsite delivery, reduce carbon use, and strengthen industry collaboration.

Chris Hall

Chris is Technical Innovation Manager at NHBC, the UK’s leading independent provider of warranty and insurance for new homes. He joined NHBC in 2015 and is responsible for maintaining policy and procedures addressing Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), as well as identifying trends to inform risk management in non-conventional construction.

With a strong background in technical standards and construction quality, Chris works across industry to promote innovation while ensuring robust risk assessment and compliance. He represents NHBC on several technical groups and is a member of the RICS Professional Residential Panel. Chris lives in Berkshire.

Dan Macpherson

Dan is a Project Director at Henry Riley, a leading multi-disciplinary property and construction consultancy delivering project management, quantity surveying, MMC advisory, and health and safety services. With over 17 years at the company, he has been a strong advocate for modern methods of construction (MMC) across multiple sectors and was instrumental in establishing Henry Riley’s National MMC Team, the first of its kind in the UK.

Committed to advancing the offsite sector, Dan focuses on removing barriers, upskilling the wider construction industry, and driving innovation. He has extensive experience across all MMC categories, specialising in Category 1 volumetric systems.

Darren Richards

Darren is an offsite manufacturing and construction expert with extensive experience across the offsite technology supply chain. He focuses on improving productivity, efficiency, and quality within modern construction through innovative design and delivery methods. Darren has worked with a range of organisations to support the adoption of modern methods of construction (MMC) and the integration of advanced manufacturing techniques.

With a strong technical background and passion for innovation, Darren plays a key role in helping businesses realise the benefits of offsite solutions, driving performance improvements, reducing waste, and enhancing sustainability across the construction industry.

Elaine Toogood

Elaine is Head of Architecture at The Concrete Centre and has been a qualified architect for 25 years. She provides architectural, project, and technical guidance on the use of concrete, with particular expertise in sustainable and visual concrete. Elaine is also a published author of technical guidance, including Concrete and BREEAM and Material Efficiency, and serves as joint editor of Concrete Quarterly.

Elaine contributes to several national initiatives, sitting on working groups for the DEFRA Property Level Flood Resilience Action Plan, The London Climate Change Partnership, and the RIBA Sustainable Futures Expert Advisory Group. She is Chair of RIBA SE London.

Gary Ramsay

Gary has edited, managed, and contributed to a wide range of B2B publications, both in print and online, since 1998. He has specialist knowledge of the timber and forest certification sectors, sustainable construction, and the offsite and modern methods of construction (MMC) industry. His experience spans editorial strategy, content development, and industry communications across multiple construction sectors.

In addition to his work within the trade press, Gary was a regular contributor to Build It magazine for several years, interviewing individuals on their self-build journeys and providing insight into design, materials, and sustainable building practices.

Graham Couchman

Dr Graham Couchman holds degrees from the University of Cambridge and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. A structural engineer by profession, he has extensive experience working on site, in design offices, academia, and applied research. His career has focused on advancing construction design and engineering through innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.

Graham first joined The Steel Construction Institute (SCI), a leading specialist consultancy, in 1995, where he contributed to pioneering research and industry standards. After several years in other roles, he returned to SCI in 2007 as Chief Executive Officer, continuing to drive technical leadership and development.

Jackie Maginnis

Jackie Maginnis is Chief Executive of the Modular & Portable Building Association (MPBA) and has worked in the volumetric industry for 40 years. Before joining the MPBA, she worked for a manufacturing and hire company supplying volumetric buildings across multiple sectors, where she was closely involved in design and production processes.

With a deep passion for the industry, Jackie works with MPBA committees to promote the benefits of offsite volumetric construction. As Chief Executive, she plays a key role in connecting sectors across the modular and portable building industry, collaborating with technical advisors to drive innovation and quality.

Ken Davie

Ken is a registered architect with over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, having worked on a diverse range of public and private sector projects from individual buildings to large masterplans. He runs his own practice, Krozen Design & Consultancy, part time from North Yorkshire, while also working as an Industry Advisor for BuildOffsite (BOS) and an Associate of the Supply Chain Sustainability School (SCSS).

Ken organises factory visits and events for BOS and delivers online workshops for SCSS on offsite and MMC, including systems fundamentals, DfMA, and systems optioneering, with recent focus on low-carbon materials.

Dr Mila Duncheva

Dr Mila Duncheva drives economic growth in the UK and Irish mass timber markets and influences policy on behalf of Stora Enso. She supports developers, designers, and construction stakeholders in applying the Sylva™ kit of parts across extensive project portfolios, promoting innovation and sustainability in timber construction.

Mila’s current focus includes enhancing biodiversity within sustainable construction supply chains. She actively supports the industry’s transition to net zero carbon through her roles as a Governance Board Member at Built Environment – Smarter Transformation and as an Advisory Board Member on the Irish Timber in Construction Regulations Working Group.

Nicola Carniato

Nicola is Studio Director for the regional offices at his practice and is based in Cambridge. He has led significant projects including the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, a pioneering example of offsite construction that demonstrates innovation, scale, and technical complexity within the built environment.

With a strong focus on sustainability, modern methods of construction (MMC), and circular economy principles, Nicola champions design approaches that reduce environmental impact and promote reuse. He led the design of a low-carbon, reusable cassette system supported by Innovate UK, showcasing his commitment to advancing sustainable construction solutions through practical innovation.

Oliver Novakovic

Oliver has worked on innovation in the construction sector with clients such as Audi, M&S, Sainsbury, British Gas and BASF for over 20 years. He has covered product development, application through to cultural change management. With Barratt his current role is to assess and roll out innovation across the business under their leading construction principle, this includes integrating offsite methods of construction and Zero Carbon.

In his current role he has led a team that have assessed many of the different zero carbon systems and introduced a New Production Introduction process to Barratt. Oliver has been advising Central Government and HBF on how to develop a successful roadmap to deliver zero carbon solution

Paul Tierney

Paul is CEO of MMC Ireland, taking up the role in May 2023. With over 30 years’ experience in the MMC sector, he previously served as CEO of ESS Modular, one of the UK and Ireland’s leading offsite construction companies.

MMC Ireland represents the national Modern Methods of Construction sector, providing leadership, advocacy, and strategic support. Paul acts as a knowledge bridge between industry and clients, working closely with government to shape policy, promote best practices, and support a sustainable MMC ecosystem. He has a longstanding passion for advancing adoption and driving innovation across the sector.

Samuel Ward

Sam is a Chartered Civil Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology and has a strong passion for innovation. He worked at Laing O’Rourke for 15 years, spanning operational delivery across multiple sectors before joining the Digital Engineering team in 2012.

Sam focuses on developing industry-leading digital capability, providing innovative solutions for pre-construction and delivery teams. He later led the UK pre-construction Digital Engineering team and, since 2019, has served as Operations and Programme Leader for Technology & Innovation, driving the development, commercialisation, and delivery of transformative technologies that advance the construction industry.

Tim Snelson

Tim is a structural engineer with 30 years of experience, based primarily in London, with a global portfolio spanning commercial and industrial property, arts and culture, sports, infrastructure, residential buildings, and bridges.

He leads one of the property teams in Arup’s London office, managing a team of 30 structural engineers as part of a multi-disciplinary building design group. Tim’s expertise combines technical excellence with practical delivery, supporting complex projects across sectors. His work focuses on innovation, sustainability, and collaboration to ensure buildings and infrastructure are designed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.

Trudi Sully

Trudi is Impact Lead at Mott MacDonald, driving the use of DfMA and MMC to enhance the whole-life performance of buildings and infrastructure. She previously spent four years as a director at the Construction Innovation Hub, working with government and industry partners to develop tools and approaches such as the Value Toolkit and Product Platform Rulebook, supporting the Construction Playbook and TIP Roadmap.

Trudi joined Mott MacDonald to transition this work from research and innovation to practical adoption, development, and deployment by industry, helping unlock the social, economic, and environmental benefits that DfMA and MMC can deliver.
