This category will reward the outstanding use of timber technology in a project across any UK construction sector.

Including cross laminated timber (CLT), glulam, timber frame, SIPS, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), associated open and closed panel systems – or innovative new systems such as nail laminated timber (NLT) – the entrant will have used timber as a major aspect in delivering a high quality, landmark building using a precision factory-controlled, sustainable offsite approach.

Special attention will be given to how timber has been used throughout the project, its material performance levels, circular economy principles, use of digital technology, aesthetics and approach to wellbeing, energy efficiency and how these have been integrated with factory manufacture.

Entrant Questions: 

1. Describe how you have used structural timber systems or components as the main building material to the highest level of technical achievement, best practice that has proved to be the optimum offsite solution.
2. Explain how your use of timber has enhanced building performance, aesthetics, improved wellbeing for building users, delivered energy efficiency and building safety.
3. Explain how the use of timber and offsite construction supply chain has collaborated to deliver the project on-time, on-budget to meet with the client’s expectations for a cost-effective and speedy project/product delivery.
4. Explain your approach to sustainability, how you have employed circular economy principles, measured carbon and quantified environmental impact, waste reduction, biomimicry, less transport, installation time etc. Please highlight use of PEFC/FSC and certified material where appropriate.
5. Give FIVE key reasons why your project is exceptional and should be considered as the best example of material use this year. Can it be seen as a future example for others to follow, e.g. aesthetics, low carbon approach, thermal efficiency, structural and engineering excellence.
