Architect of the Year
Entry Criteria
Open to an individual or any size of practice.
This award will celebrate a professional architect or architectural technologist that has used an offsite approach as a successful and defining aspect within a completed building in the UK.
Emphasis will be given to the technical and creative reasons why the particular material or system was specified and how this was communicated within the project team and delivered in the final concept.
Particular note will be given to the use of digital construction techniques, integrating the principles of circular construction and futureproofing, imaginative design and creative ways to problem solve and how offsite manufacture has been used to inspire future building design, within a framework of budget, project deliverability and timescale.
Entrant Questions:
- Describe the reasons behind the specification of offsite technology as the central design concept and why this approach was chosen when compared to other offsite systems or a traditional approach.
- Outline how the individual or practice has used offsite methods coupled with design prowess to convince clients and contractors of its long-term value.
- Describe the aesthetic choices, design principles and creative drive behind the choice of offsite manufacture.
- Describe how the architecture and design elements have contributed to achieving maximum project benefits for the client and met the end users’ expectations.
- Give FIVE key reasons why your work is exceptional, challenged design norms and should be considered as the best example this year. Can it be seen as a future example for others to follow, e.g. aesthetics, landmark building, meeting client demands and expectations, low carbon/sustainability, overcoming unusual site requirements, waste reduction. Will it be applied to future developments?
