Entries in this category should showcase in an understandable, measurable way, how different construction materials and systems can combine to provide a final project that successfully maximises the benefits of an offsite approach.

This can be structurally – externally or internally – and can also include the integration of traditional and site-based construction to deliver a successful final project design.

Special emphasis will be placed on an integrated approach to the client’s needs, material performance, energy performance, programme performance, overcoming site-based issues and using circular economy principles.

The project should clearly demonstrate how a hybrid mix delivers cost-predictability, economy, accuracy, transportability, speed of installation, waste minimisation and principles of lean manufacture have been achieved.

Entrant Questions: 

1. Describe the reasons behind the specification of offsite technology and adoption of a hybrid approach as the central construction method or key element of the project.
2. Explain how your use of hybrid technology has enhanced building performance, energy efficiency and reduced ongoing maintenance. What differing materials and systems have been used and why?
3. Explain how the use of a hybrid approach, differing materials and offsite manufacture have combined to deliver the final finished project.
4. Explain your approach to material and system choice and how the key benefits of each system used has maximised project outcomes and client’s expectations and been the correct building solution beyond a single system approach.
5. Give FIVE key reasons why your project is exceptional and should be considered as the best example of a hybrid approach this year. Can it be seen as a future example for others to follow, e.g. aesthetics, low carbon approach, thermal efficiency, waste reduction, engineering excellence, installation ease.
