Best Use of MEP & POD Technology

Entry Criteria

This category will reward the outstanding use of offsite manufactured MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) services or use of pod technology in any size and type of project across the UK.

Entries must clearly demonstrate how pre-installed service units and risers, kitchen and bathroom pods or ‘plug and play’ technology, plant rooms, pipe- and ductwork for building services have been seamlessly integrated in a project in ways that are above and beyond traditional methods.

Special attention will be given to prefabricated unit design, safe delivery and installation of serviced modules, the level of activity taken offsite, the integration with on-site activities and performance levels, clear supply chain integration and ease of maintenance and provision of high-performance facilities matching the client’s requirements.

Entrant Questions:

  1. Describe the reasons behind the specification of offsite technology to deliver the MEP or pod element of the project and why this approach was chosen as opposed to traditional site-based methods.
  2. Explain how the use of prefabricated MEP or pod technology has streamlined the project, made installation simpler, improved building performance, energy efficiency and reduced ongoing maintenance.
  3. Explain how the use of MEP or pod technology has contributed to a smoother supply chain and how these building services have been delivered by the MEP team to meet client expectations for a cost-effective, low maintenance solution.
  4. Explain how your MEP or pod approach has enabled the need for fewer on-site trades, better carbon management and measuring of environmental impact, waste reduction, reduced transport requirements, installation costs etc.
  5. Give FIVE key reasons why the use of prefabricated MEP or pod services have given this project a clear improvement over the use of traditional site-based methods and why this project can be viewed as a ‘best-in-class’. e.g. use of digital technology, installation method, unusual site circumstances.
