Entry Criteria
This category will reward the outstanding use of volumetric technology in a project across any UK construction sector – including housing, student accommodation, retail and commercial buildings.
This can include pre-installed service modular units, kitchen and bathroom pods and volumetric washrooms, the entrant will have shown the use of volumetric technology as a major factor in delivering quality, factory-controlled, robust and sustainable offsite manufacture.
Special attention will be given to prefabricated unit design, the level of activity taken offsite, the integration with on-site activities and performance levels and the project should clearly demonstrate how cost-predictability, economy, accuracy, transportability, speed of installation to form complete buildings, circular economy principles and precision factory manufacture have been achieved.
Entrant Questions:
- Describe the reasons behind the specification of volumetric technology as the central construction method or key element of the project and why this approach was chosen when compared to other offsite systems.
- Explain how the use of volumetric technology has enhanced project delivery and overall building performance, sustainability, energy efficiency and quality of design.
- Explain how the use of volumetric technology and offsite construction supply chain has collaborated to deliver the project on-time, on-budget to meet with the client’s expectations for a cost-effective and speedy project/product delivery.
- Explain your approach to sustainability, carbon management, use of digital tools or innovative ways of employing circular economy principles, waste reduction, reduced transport, lower installation costs, overcoming unusual site requirements etc.
- Give FIVE key reasons why your project is exceptional and should be considered as the best example of material use this year. Can it be seen as a future example for others to follow, e.g. speed and consistency of unit, low carbon approach, use of digital technology, thermal efficiency, structural and engineering excellence.
